What is Divorce and Family Mediation?

Divorce and Family Mediation is an approach where a trained impartial person helps people who are separating resolve their conflicts. It is a way of resolving difficulties through joint meetings that allow the individuals to identify all the issues that need to be addressed in a parenting and separation agreement. Through mediation, individuals identify the issues, consider the options, understand their implications, and mutually reach decisions regarding the children, parenting, property and financial support.

Benefits of Mediation

Empowering.  You mutually decide on what is best for you and your children through the process of divorce and family mediation.

In the Best Interests of the Children.  If children are involved, the focus in divorce and family mediation is always on what is best for the children. This creates a basis for an ongoing parenting relationship which in fact continues for a lifetime.

Open discussion.  In divorce and family mediation all the issues and problems are brought into the open so that you are able to consider options, understand their impact, and arrive at decisions that satisfy the needs of both parties.

Non-adversarial.  During divorce and family mediation emphasis is on respectful and constructive communication. Both parties are guided to make decisions that are fair and equitable.

Reduces the Financial and Emotional Costs.  You make the decisions. You are in control of the number of sessions and the outcomes. Divorce and family mediation is cost effective and also reduces the emotional turmoil of the separation process.
